As part of the advanced naval training exercise MAR-26, three Spanish Navy frigates—Santa María, Numancia, and Navarra—have made a scheduled call at Muelle 14 in Alicante Port.
The stopover happened today, Friday January 30th, and is part of a larger set of manoeuvres happening in the Gulf of Cádiz, the Strait of Gibraltar, and the Alborán Sea.
The ships were open to the public on Saturday, January 31st, and Sunday, February 1st, so people may board them. After their visit to Alicante, the ships will go back to their normal operations and are expected to return to their home bases on February 6th.
The MAR-26 exercise is set up to test and improve naval skills in traditional and modern situations, such as protecting against unmanned systems.
