The National Police arrested a man as the alleged perpetrator of a theft after he was apprehended in Murcia with a suitcase stolen at Barcelona-El Prat airport from a man who had a stopover at the terminal on his way back from a trip, according to Corps sources in a statement.
The victim filed a complaint with police headquarters, claiming that one of his four pieces of luggage, which had been misplaced at the Catalan airport where he had a layover following a journey to Helsinki (Finland), had a monitoring device attached, allowing him to know that the suitcase was in Murcia.
Agents from the National Police of Madrid and Murcia immediately launched a coordinated operation, allowing them to find a man in possession of the stolen luggage, which included 2,000 euros in valuables.
When questioned by the officers, the individual appeared uneasy and eventually admitted that the suitcase did not belong to him. He was accused of alleged theft and hauled before the court authorities.
The stolen suitcase, once recovered, will be restored to its rightful owner.
