On Friday evening, February 6th, inhabitants of 8 Calle Ciclón in Torrevieja were astonished to see a massive fire. The fire started in a building’s basement garage and quickly spread to the parked vehicles, causing dense columns of smoke and flames that scared the entire town.
The alarm was sounded at 10:33 p.m., triggering the emergency process and dispatching personnel from the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium to the area.
A fast and organised intervention
When emergency crews arrived, they promptly began extinguishing the fire and evacuated the premises. One resident was taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries has yet to be reported.
The intervention was complicated due to the fire’s position in a closed and difficult-to-access environment, which necessitated the deployment of mechanical ventilation to remove harmful gases once the fire was under control.
The firemen utilised a command unit (UMJ), a heavy urban pump (BUP), a heavy water tanker (BNP), and a heavy rural pump (BRP). One sergeant, two corporals, and ten firefighters from the Torrevieja and Almoradí fire stations took part.
Significant material harm
The fire entirely destroyed three cars, badly damaged three others, and left 15 others with minor damage. The firemen’ actions prevented the fires from spreading throughout the building, which could have had far more devastating repercussions.
After extinguishing the fire at 00:50 hours, the operation proceeded until 03:02, when the intervention concluded with ventilation and an assessment of the entire garage to ensure that there were no active hotspots or stored gases.
