Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is boosting its dining options with the addition of an English-style pub from the popular British chain Wetherspoons. According to Aena sources, this is the first Wetherspoon pub to open in Spain, and the chain’s first outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it is well-established. This latest addition to the airport’s dining options is especially popular among British visitors, providing a more comfortable experience in the terminal prior to their flight.
The restaurant, managed by Lagardère Travel Retail, is located in the departure area for non-Schengen foreign flights, which largely serve British visitors. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on the first day of opening by Javier Cagigal and Ana de Soto, CEO and Commercial and Marketing Director of Lagardère Travel Retail, respectively; Joe Argyle and Barry Brewster, Senior Commercial Manager and Regional Manager of Wetherspoon; María García, Head of the Commercial Division of Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport; and Marta Abardía, Director of Commercial Services at Aena.”

The pub’s menu includes standard pub fare such as English breakfast, fish & chips, burgers, pizzas, and other classics. In addition to draft beer, the pub offers a diverse assortment of craft beers and wine. The menu also contains Spanish specialities like the Spanish omelette and garlic shrimp.
According to the same sources, the new restaurant at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport expands the range and variety of alternatives in the departure area, which is predominantly utilised by British travellers. To do this, a large facility with a total size of more than 200 square metres has been constructed.
As a unique feature, the bar has a terrace of more than 30 metres that is both open and covered, allowing you to enjoy an outdoor space on the terminal’s departure sidewalk without leaving the boarding area.
The Wetherspoon pub at Alicante Airport likewise pays respect to the province by borrowing its name from “Castell de Santa Bàrbara,” one of Alicante’s most renowned sights. The decor features Mediterranean motifs influenced by the Costa Blanca. According to the same sources, the pub’s hours are adjusted to accommodate airport operations, ensuring that passengers are served at all times.
