Guardia Civil officers arrested two women and two men accused of robbery with violence and intimidation at an optician’s shop in La Marina, a suburb of Elche (Alicante).
According to a Guardia Civil statement, the incident occurred on January 30th, at 5:00 p.m., when two women allegedly entered the institution with the goal of diverting one of the staff.
Simultaneously, two men appear to have entered the premises and walked straight to a display panel of sunglasses, where they grabbed eight pairs worth around 2,000 euros.
When one of the employees noticed what had happened, she attempted to reclaim the stolen items, and the two men responded violently, wrestling with her and attempting to toss her to the ground to facilitate their escape.
Another employee partially blocked the escape, and the claimed criminals brutally pushed the workers as well as the exit door. They were eventually able to exit the premises in a car. The Guardia Civil promptly initiated a search effort that included officers from the main stations in Santa Pola and Guardamar del Segura.
According to the investigation, the vehicle allegedly used by the accused was discovered at a campsite in Guardamar del Segura. There was a surveillance point set up, allowing the four alleged culprits to be identified and arrested.
The suspects, two women and two men aged 22 to 41, formed two pairs and all had past convictions for similar crimes. They were staying at the campsite, and officers discovered they were members of a travelling organisation that specialised in this type of thievery. A pair of sunglasses worth 300 euros was recovered and returned to the concerned optician.
The inmates, who face charges of robbery with violence and intimidation, were taken before the duty judge of the Elche court district, who ordered their pretrial custody.
