The Alicante City Council confirmed yesterday, Tuesday February 9th, that Cirque du Soleil will continue in the city until 2028, after the local governing body approved the first extension of the agreement that allows the Canadian company to perform its shows every two years.
The agreement was signed in 2022 for exhibitions in that year and 2024, and it allows for extensions every two years, up to a maximum of four years, according to a council statement.
The Councillor for Culture, Nayma Beldjilali, welcomed the news, saying, “It is great news that our city continues to be among the few chosen in Spain for Cirque du Soleil performances, which put Alicante on the cultural map and act as a focus of quality tourist attraction.”
Cirque du Soleil’s ‘Luzia’ and ‘Alegría’ have completed their last two performances in the city. Under a New Light’ has received over 110,000 viewers each. This summer, the company will return to the big top at San Juan Beach with ‘Kurios. The “Cabinet of Curiosities” will tour five Spanish towns.
