National Police officers in Malaga have arrested several people on suspicion of being involved in the systematic theft of high-end mobile phones while working as delivery drivers for a courier company. The alleged thefts have led to the identification of another six individuals.
The year-long investigation began after a trend of parcel non-delivery was discovered. The investigation revealed that the individuals responsible for the erratic deliveries exploited periods of increased workload and deliveries.
During the summer, when workloads are often greater, the criminals would take packages containing high-end mobile phones and then resell them at a reduced price or keep them for personal use.
Malaga police officers were able to collect six gadgets, some of which were already in the possession of third parties.
The seven people arrested have been charged with stealing and receiving stolen goods. The court has already transferred the proceedings, and further arrests remain a possibility.
In respect to this type of event, the National Police reminds the public to report any irregularities in package delivery.
The police investigation was based on a lot of legwork as well as the participation of the delivery firm and its security staff, who provided the essential evidence for the criminals to be fully identified.
