Argentina has made it to Alicante. The current World Champion and two-time Copa América champion starts its training camp this afternoon, Monday November 10th, in La Finca Resort in Algorfa, where it will stay until November 18th.
Argentina, with Leo Messi in charge, will use their time there to get ready for their friendly game against Angola next Friday.
The team will go back to Algorfa after the game in Africa, but the Rosario star will not be with them because the national team has let him go back to his club in Miami.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has kept the training camp’s location a secret until the last minute so that the players can have as much privacy as possible while they are in Alicante.
Fans and the media won’t be able to get into any of the training sessions. They will only be permitted to go into the facility on Thursday for coach Lionel Scaloni’s news conference.
A perfect place
Choosing La Finca Resort as the site of the World Champion’s training camp is more proof of how comfortable and high-quality its facilities are.
In the last few years, national teams like Colombia and Georgia, as well as First Division teams like Getafe and Elche, have used its grounds and gyms.
La Finca is an oasis in the centre of the Vega Baja, about 35 minutes from Alicante airport.
The facility was built as a paradise for golfers, with three million square metres of green space. Now it is a real high-performance multi-sport centre.
The facility has the latest technology, padel courts, a gym for elite players, a spa, and an amazing training ground that gives professional teams and clubs the finest circumstances for their tactical and physical work.
Scaloni’s list
Messi is in charge of the Argentine team, which features some surprises, such Joaquín Panichelli, a 23-year-old striker from Racing Strasbourg who used to play for Mirandés, and Gianluca Prestianni, a young striker from Benfica who has already played in the Under-20 World Cup.
Full-back Valentín Barco will also be there, but goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez will not be there because he is hurt. Lisandro Martínez, Franco Mastantuono, and Paulo Dybala are all not available because they are currently healing from injuries.
