When the heat of summer subsides and the beaches become quieter, many people wonder what the Costa Blanca has to offer in the cooler months. But don’t be fooled by the drop in temperature; autumn and winter in Costa Blanca reveal a completely different side to this stunning region. It’s the ideal time to explore, indulge, and reconnect, with fewer crowds, milder weather, and a vibrant local scene.
Here’s your guide to the best things to do when the air turns crisp and the Costa Blanca slows down – in all the right ways.

Discover inland villages and hidden gems: The cooler months are ideal for discovering Costa Blanca’s inland treasures. In the autumn and winter, villages such as Guadalest, Bocairent, and Jalon come alive with charm. Imagine cobblestone streets, scenic viewpoints, artisan shops, and local wines without the crowds. Visit Guardalest Castle on a clear winter day for breathtaking views of the reservoir and mountains.
Hiking (Without the Dreaded Heat): When the summer heat no longer limits your activities, hiking becomes one of the best ways to explore the region. Trails in Sierra Bernia, Font Roja, and Montgo Natural Parks provide fresh air, pine forests, and stunning views of the coast.
Warm up with local food and wine: The off-season is ideal for exploring regional cuisines. Consider slow-cooked stews, arroz caldoso, roasted meats, and seasonal vegetables. Cosy up in a traditional restaurant or go wine tasting in Jalon Valley.

Explore local markets: Autumn and winter bring out the best in local produce, including sweet potatoes, oranges, artichokes, and honey. Farmers’ markets in Denia, Altea, Benijofar, and Torreviwja are a culinary delight as well as a wonderful way to support local artisans.
Visit cultural sites without the crowds: The off-season is your chance to immerse yourself in history and culture in peace. Wander through Orihuela’s cathedral, discover the castle of Santa Barbara in Alicante, or admire the palm groves of Elche.
Enjoy the outdoor cafes and sunny plazas: Even in December, it is not uncommon to have a coffee outside on a sunny afternoon. Take your time in a local plaza; many towns have outdoor seating all year thanks to small courtyards and sunny corners. If you haven’t already, I recommend you try a ‘Cafe Bombon’ this winter, which is an espresso with sweetened condensed milk and the ultimate winter warmer; you’ll thank me later!

Pamper yourself in a spa or thermal bath: Why not use the cooler months to recharge? Spa resorts include La Laguna Spa & Golf in Quesada and Archena’s thermal springs, which are my personal favourite escape. Both provide the ultimate in relaxation when the weather is cool.
Take a scenic drive along the coast: the roads are quieter, the light is golden, and the views are spectacular. Take a drive from Altea to Calpe or from Javea to Moraira, stopping at miradores on the way.
The cooler months on the Costa Blanca are more than just a quiet season; they are an invitation to slow down and explore the region more deeply. Whether you’re hiking through pine-scented trails, sipping wine in a hilltop village, or browsing local markets in the winter sun, Costa Blanca still shines – albeit in a softer, cosier light.
