The number of severe respiratory infections (ARIs) in the Valencian Community caused by COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) rose by 31.6% over the course of September. It went from 418.8 cases per 100,000 individuals in the first week to 686.9 in the last week.
According to the Ministry of Health’s Acute Respiratory Infection Surveillance System of the Valencian Community (SiVIRA), there were 686.9 cases per 100,000 people in the thirty-ninth week of the year (September 22 to 29).
The number of cases in children under 4 years old has tripled, going from 1,059.3 cases per 100,000 people in the thirty-sixth week of the year (September 1–7) to 3,507 in the thirty-eighth week. The number of cases in people over 65 years old has also gone up by 26%, going from 418.8 cases in the first week of the month to 517.3 in the last.
The number of COVID cases has been going up all month, from 82.9 instances per 100,000 persons in the first week of September to 92.7 in the second week and 141.2 in the third week. From the 22nd to the 28th, the number dropped by 22% from the week before, to 109.9 cases.
For influenza, the number of cases started at zero in the first week of September. In the second week, it rose to 3.7 instances, and in the third week, it rose to 20.3 cases per 100,000 people. In the last week of the month, it dropped slightly to 19.2 cases, a 5.4 percent decrease.
According to data from Sivira, the number of cases of respiratory syncytial virus, which is the main cause of bronchiolitis, has stayed low all month. There were no instances in the first three weeks, and there were 4.8 cases per 100,000 people in the fourth week.
The number of people who had to go to the hospital for severe acute respiratory infections has also stayed the same over the course of the month. In the first week, there were 9.1 cases per 100,000 people; in the second week, there were 9.7 cases; in the third week, there were 10.1 cases; and in the fourth week, there were 10.6 cases.
