The buzz is back. As the sweltering heat of August fades, a new energy sweeps across the Costa Blanca. It’s that familiar back-to-school feeling, and for those of us who live here, it feels like our own personal new year. The number of tourists is gradually decreasing, road traffic is beginning to ease, and students will return to school next week.
Parents can experience a range of emotions during this time of year. There is a sense of relief that comes with returning to routine and having a quieter house during the day. However, there is also the rush of navigating new school schedules, purchasing supplies, and preparing the children for a new academic year in a foreign country. Whether your children attend a local Spanish school or one of the many international schools along the coast, this is a time of transition for the entire family.

So what about the rest of us? If you do not have children, this is an excellent opportunity. The Costa Blanca that you fell in love with is returning to its laid-back, local pace. That favourite beach, which was crowded in July, is now quiet and peaceful. The restaurants and cafes are no longer overcrowded with temporary visitors. This is an excellent time to reclaim your space and enjoy the simple pleasures of life here.
As the school gates open and the students find their new desks, take a moment to find yours. This new season is an excellent opportunity to begin a Spanish language class, join a hiking or cycling group, or simply pursue a new hobby you’ve been putting off. Reconnect with friends over a leisurely lunch in a town that has finally become peaceful.
The summer madness has ended, but the best of the Costa Blanca has only just begun. What are you looking forward to most this autumn?
