On February 23, the teams of the Valencian Community Rowing Federation will have their sixth regatta at the Real Club Náutico Calpe. This is part of the Suma Fixed Bank League of the Mediterranean. There are only five of the ten regattas that are still planned, so almost 600 athletes are being called to participate in a test that will decide who wins this regional competition. The league is mostly paid for by Suma Gestión Tributaria.
The race course will be out in the open sea, across from the Calpe Marina and in front of the beautiful Peñón de Ifach. A great location in the Mediterranean will make people want to keep a close eye on the race as it goes along the coast and through the port area. The style of the race is Falucho Llaüt Mediterranean, which comes from rowing in the Levante.
The distance of the course changes for each group. The kids’, cadet, veteran and SCM teams (made up of people who have beaten breast cancer) will have to swim 700 meters and make one turn. The junior and senior teams, on the other hand, will have to swim 1,400 meters and make three turns around the buoy. For each group, there will be a preliminary test where the athletes will have to record their times. The first start is set for 8:30 a.m., and rowing will happen all morning in Calpe throughout the day. At 2:15 p.m., the last round is set to begin.
The following twenty clubs are taking part in the VI Regatta of the SUMA Fixed Bank League of the Mediterranean: the Sports Section of the University of Alicante; the Alicante Costa Blanca Nautical Club; the Santa Pola Nautical Club; the Benidorm Nautical Club; the Altea Nautical Club; the Jávea Nautical Club; the Oliva Nautical Club; the Campello Nautical Club; the City of Valencia Rowing Club; the Rem CÃa GandÃa Club; the Rem Grau GandÃa Club; the Rem Marina Denia Club; the Royal Valencia Nautical Club; the Royal Calpe Nautical Club; the Denia Nautical Club; the Alicante Regatta Club; the Torrevieja Rowing Club; the Torrevieja Nautical Club; the Clot de L’Illot El Campello Sea Sports Club; and the Cartago Boga-Santa LucÃa Rowing Club.
