Many locals are concerned about the shortage of doctors at the Calp Health Centre and the consequent decline in primary care in the municipality. Calp Town Hall has communicated this concern to Denia’s health department.
Ana Sala, the mayor of Calp, and Itziar Doval, the councillor for health, met this morning with the people in charge of the health sector, namely with Óscar Morell, the director of primary care at Denia Hospital, Rosa Gregori, the hospital’s director of nursing, and Juan Puig, the manager of the Department of Health.
According to health department officials, following the reversal of the Denia hospital’s management, a total of 19 positions were created throughout the health area, two of which matched two doctors for the Calp Health Centre. However, as of right now, neither doctor has stepped forward to fill the two Calp positions because there aren’t any interested candidates.
The issue is that there is not enough staff to cover the allocated roles, even if a hiring pool was established to fill them. Additionally, they have noted that Denia and Alcira account for 55% of the Valencian Community’s physician shortage.
However, people in charge of the Denia health area have pointed out that eight nurse roles, three nursing assistant positions, and a physiotherapy position have been created and filled at the Calp Health Centre.
The busy medical staff at the Calp Health Centre has also been commended for their efforts to maintain the standard of care.
Officials from the municipality and the health department have decided to keep meeting in order to discover solutions that will help the municipality’s health status.
