In the municipality of Altea (Alicante), National Police officers have disassembled a hydroponic marijuana plantation that was set up inside a home and arrested a man and a woman.
One technique for growing plants without soil is hydroponics, which uses mineral solutions. With the appropriate chemical inputs, the roots receive nutrients in a balanced solution dissolved in water.
The inquiry started after examining different information from neighbours that revealed the presence of this crop, which made regular coexisting in the region challenging, according to police sources in a statement. According to a statement from Police Headquarters, “the strong stench emanating from the home caused discomfort among the neighbours.”
The agents were certain that the residence under investigation included a marijuana crop for later treatment and sale on the black market after conducting a number of surveillance and follow-ups on the house.
The court was asked to enter and search the home in order to carry out the intervention and dismantling of the marijuana plant cultivation. They found 1,105 grammes of marijuana buds and 106 1.50-meter-tall plants in a room that had a “sophisticated” hydroponic system with all the equipment required for the plants’ growth and cultivation.
Due to all of these factors, the agents have detained a Spanish-born man and a woman, ages 31 and 33, on suspicion of committing a crime against public health.
