Francisco NP, who goes by Paco, is accused of killing a 90-year-old woman in Puente Tocinos on the Day of the Assumption. Next Thursday December 18th, he will be in the dock of the Second Section of the Provincial Court of Murcia for the trial against him for killing his sister’s mother-in-law, Teresa.

The prosecution wants the suspect to spend fifteen years in prison: thirteen for murder and two for arson. They also want him to pay Teresa’s children €45,800 in damages. The suspect admits to killing the woman, but he claims that drugs caused him to enter her house on Calle Mayor on the Feast of the Assumption in 2024 and cut her throat.

He attempted to burn down the house

Emergency Services first heard about the occurrence as a fire, and firefighters from Murcia were the first to arrive to the scene. When they found a woman at the door of the house drenched in blood and showing signs of violence, the fire became less important. The woman was 90-year-old Teresa, the victim.

The prosecutor said, “He lunged at her and stabbed her in the neck, cutting her throat deeply and killing her right away.”

The suspect ignited the fire with the goal of burning down the house, perhaps to get rid of proof of his crime. The Public Prosecutor’s Office said, “He lit a small stove in the kitchen, burned a roll of kitchen paper and put it in a plastic box, which set off the house alarm.”

The prosecutor goes on to say that at that point, the 90-year-old woman came into the kitchen and surprised Paco. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is clear that he “grabbed a kitchen knife while under the influence of drugs and lunged at Teresa, stabbing her in the neck with a deep cut to her throat, killing her right away.”

The prosecutor’s first conclusions also take into account Paco’s drug addiction as a reason to be less harsh: at the time of the events, he was high on drugs that made him act badly. The Public Prosecutor’s Office further stresses that the defendant abused his position over the victim: he possessed a knife and she, an elderly woman, had no way to defend herself.
