El Campello Local Police have “conclusively” identified a graffiti artist responsible for six graffiti works on Catalan Railways’ public and private buildings and services.
He is young, but not a juvenile, therefore he will be individually liable for paying the fines, which total 4,500 euros (for the time being), plus a little more than 4,000 euros to repair the damage, according to municipal sources.
Once again, the people assisted the police in carrying out their operation. A neighbour’s direct evidence caught the graffiti artist in action. Far from giving up after being apprehended by cops and recognised, “he has continued causing damage for months,” according to the same sources.
Investigation
The police force indicates that the young man may face additional fines depending on the progress of the work of the handwriting experts from the Elche Local Police, who have been asked to collaborate and whose investigation concludes that he is the material author of at least six graffiti in the municipality.
Experts are still investigating additional graffiti. The authorities to whom the case is referred will decide if these instances are criminal.
The municipal ordinance addresses these offences and imposes fines, as well as the requirement to reimburse the costs of restoring these sites to their original conditions.
Rafa Galvañ, Councillor for Security, emphasises the benefits of citizen cooperation and coordination between police units. “We’re not talking about street art here, but rather actions that pollute walls and structures, and we’ve previously warned of efforts to identify culprits, discipline them, and repair the damage. “Now that the educational phase is complete, it’s time to act,” he says.
