An 80-year-old man was rescued early yesterday morning, Sunday May 25th, after being trapped beneath a TRAM train in El Campello. The event occurred at 5:30 a.m. in Alicante’s town centre.
The rescue, carried out by local police and the Guardia Civil, was hard but successful in saving the elderly man’s life, who was sent to the hospital.
A challenging rescue
According to police sources, an elderly man was hit by a TRAM unit travelling at low speed across the level crossing on Calle GermanÃes, a popular area for both vehicles and pedestrians.

After receiving the notice, local police and Guardia Civil personnel responded swiftly to the location. The train missed the man entirely due to its slow speed, but the elderly man’s body was partially stuck beneath it. Given the nature of the event and the injured man’s position, a highly delicate rescue operation was launched.
Although the incident occurred during a period of low traffic, the tram was operating with prudence, as is customary when passing through metropolitan areas, which likely averted a more disastrous conclusion.
The circumstances of this occurrence are unknown, and there are currently no eyewitnesses that can shed light on what happened.
