The Alfafar anti-bullfighting platform continues its campaign for animal rights, urging Mayor Juan Ramón Adsuara (PP) to prioritise the predicament of Alfafar inhabitants over the “bullfighting lobby.” In a statement, the platform claims that official studies reveal an increasing number of people are becoming aware of their objections to bullfighting, primarily due to concerns about animal suffering.
Similarly, the platform deems it an additional aggravating element since, months after the occurrence, families in the municipality are still in distress due to school closures. “We’re talking about events based solely and exclusively on the torture of animals, which only interests a small portion of the town and all the surrounding villages, in addition to the direct and indirect costs involved in holding them, damage to street furniture, a complete lack of protection for children, and an increase in the level of filth in the municipality,” said its leader, Diego Nevado.
The organisation also reports that a youngster was run over during these incidents, which they fear endangers the entire village. “Mayor Adsuara has the opportunity to demonstrate that his priority is residents and not an anachronistic lobby that relies on public money to subdue animals, but furthermore, we are clear that Vox and the Socialist Party are equally responsible for being in the opposition and not speaking out against it,” Nevado points out, asserting that CompromÃs is the only party represented in Alfafar that opposes this.
The platform also mentions that a youngster was run over during these events, which they fear endangers the entire community. They further state that if the immediate suspension of bullfighting events in August is not declared, they will conduct their normal meeting outside the town hall on those dates. According to them, “The mayor would demonstrate absolute contempt for the people of his town, who are suffering, if he decides to prioritise these anachronistic spectacles based on the torture of animals over reconstruction.”
