National Police officers have arrested a 25-year-old woman in Elda (Alicante) accused of setting a fire that damaged several vehicles and a property in retaliation for a breakup with the owner of a moped that was damaged in the fire. The detainee is believed to be the alleged perpetrator of an arson-related damage crime.
The fire damaged a moped, two cars, and the facade of a building, causing significant material damage, according to a police statement. Police located and arrested the woman, who had a criminal record, in the same town.
A unit from the National Police’s Local Citizen Security Brigade was activated early in the morning to respond to the street where a fire had broken out. Upon arrival, officers found a moped, two parked cars, and part of the facade of a building engulfed in flames.
Given the existing danger, the emergency protocol was activated, the area was cordoned off, and the street was evacuated until the arrival of the fire department, whose personnel extinguished the blaze and prevented further injuries.
Initial investigations indicated that the fire started on the moped, later spreading to nearby vehicles and the adjacent building. The Local Judicial Police Brigade of the Elda-Petrer Police Station took over the investigation.
Background
Thanks to the investigation, officers were able to identify the alleged perpetrator: a 25-year-old woman with a criminal record for several previous incidents. According to the investigation, the motive for the fire was likely personal, as the moped owner had previously been in a relationship with the alleged perpetrator.
After he refused to continue the relationship due to “certain negative behaviour” from the woman, she allegedly decided to burn his vehicle in retaliation. The woman was located in Elda and immediately arrested.
The material damage was considerable, as the two cars were a complete write-off, and the damage to the building’s facade was valued at more than 4,500 euros. The Elda Investigative Court brought the detainee under investigation for arson-related damage.
