This weekend, Alicante’s Santa Bárbara Castle will transport visitors back to mediaeval times with a jam-packed schedule of events for all ages and a well-kept historical environment. Visitors can enjoy games, storytelling, crafts, live music, parades, and shows in a vast Mediaeval Market that includes a food court.
Ana Poquet, the Tourism Council’s representative, stated that “the Mediaeval Weekend is establishing itself as one of the most anticipated activities of the year at Santa Bárbara Castle, with activities so the whole family can enjoy a unique day at the fortress in what feels like a true journey back in time.”
According to municipal officials, the fourth edition of the Mediaeval Weekend will transform the stronghold into a period setting with the involvement of the Fragua de Vulcano. Esatur, in collaboration with the Alicante City & Beach Tourism Board, organises the event. The event’s hours have been extended: Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy the Mediaeval Market, which includes craft stalls with live demonstrations of traditional crafts, children’s games, and attractions like period carousels, live music with mediaeval instruments, parades and shows with costumed characters, and a large food court with tables, food, and drink stalls in a family-friendly environment.
Furthermore, visitors will continue to have access to the castle’s many spaces and permanent displays. Regular hours will offer the usual wine and beer tastings, while the celebratory atmosphere of the event will incorporate guided and dramatised tours.
After the success of the previous edition held in spring 2024, organisers expect a large number of local, national, and international visitors. According to the public announcement, the Mediaeval Weekend has solidified its status as one of the castle’s cultural highlights.
