The Guardia Civil detained a 36-year-old Romanian fugitive in Torrevieja on a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by Romanian authorities for drug trafficking.
The apprehended individual was carrying fake documents and was discovered while riding as a passenger in a vehicle with Romanian license plates, where he attempted to flee when he noticed the officers.
On April 30th, authorities saw a car with foreign license plates being driven by two men on an urban route in Torrevieja. The passenger tried to disguise his face with sunglasses while cowering in his seat.
The police chose to stop the car due to the driver’s evasive behaviour and odd driving.
False documents
The occupants presented the police with several documents, including the passenger’s Romanian ID card and driver’s licence. The police’s skill in examining the documents and recognising them as phoney allowed them to determine that both IDs were counterfeit, and the man was arrested for alleged document fabrication.
Given the detainee’s refusal to reveal his genuine identity, the Guardia Civil undertook a number of enquiries and was eventually able to determine that he was sought in Romania for drug trafficking and had a valid EAW (State Order) since December 31st, 2021.
The imprisoned guy appeared before Torrevieja’s Court of First Instance No. 2 for document fabrication, as well as the National Court’s duty court for the extradition order.
