National Police officers apprehended a 45-year-old Ukrainian man in Dénia, Alicante, on an international arrest order issued by his country’s authorities. He fled after being sentenced to five years in prison for falsifying documents.
The offences took place from 2019 to 2022, during which the accused man was a member of an organised group that falsified and sold official documents. They specifically involved educational credentials with holographic protective components, which violated the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science, according to a police statement.
Ukrainian authorities issued an international arrest order, which was brought to the National Police’s notice when it was suspected that the fugitive had chosen the province of Alicante to avoid prosecution in his home country. After initiating an inquiry, investigators located him in the town of Dénia and arrested him.
The Central Investigative Court of the National Court (AN), responsible for processing his extradition, received the detainee.
