Shootings have become fairly common on the Costa del Sol. In just a year and a half, there have been over 30 around the province, indicating that they are no longer centred in Marbella but rather in municipalities both inland and along the coast.
The number of events involving firearms has increased to 32. Eight persons were killed in shootings in Málaga between January 2024 and May 2025.
Thus, according to data on shootings reported in the province, the number of people injured by one, two, or even ten bullet wounds has increased to 42.
In terms of municipalities, Marbella is not the town with the most recorded gunshots; it shares that place with Málaga City, since both locations had seven shootings between January 2024 and May 2025.
However, there have been shootings in Mijas, Estepona, Fuengirola, Benalmádena, Antequera, AlhaurÃn el Grande, AlhaurÃn de la Torre, and Humilladero.
2025 Shootings
Between January 1st, 2025, and May 31st, 2025, there were 11 shootings in the province, killing five people and injuring ten.
The most notable shooting in the province was the one that happened on Saturday, May 31, in Fuengirola, where two Scotsmen died after being shot in the chest and abdomen.
Initial investigations have found that he may be involved in a drug-related settling of scores. No arrests have been made thus far.
On April 29th, a 36-year-old male was shot and died in Humilladero, while his 70-year-old mother was reportedly driven over by a car, resulting in collarbone and shoulder injuries.
On April 3rd, fear spread in Málaga’s Carretera de Cádiz region after four men were shot, one of whom was a 73-year-old who appeared to be passing through the area.
A gunshot in Málaga’s Palma-Palmilla neighbourhood killed a 39-year-old man last March. He attempted to exit the building to seek help but was discovered dead on one of the landings.
2024 Shootings
There were 21 reported shootings in 2024, resulting in three fatalities and 32 injuries. Among these occurrences, the one in Antequera in May stands out, with 14 people injured, some critically.
In contrast, six individuals were hurt in a shooting in La Trinidad after witnesses called 112 to report hearing what “sounded like” gunfire on Churruca Street. Four individuals were arrested.
In May, a 37-year-old man was critically injured by a gunshot wound in the GarcÃa Grana neighbourhood in the Cruz de Humilladero area. He died at the Regional Hospital.
There were five shootings in Marbella, with four people injured but none killed. The shooting on April 13 stands out among these incidents, as a 33-year-old Albanian guy who was dining in the vicinity was shot ten times, predominantly in the lower extremities. The event is particularly notable because he survived.
