The local government, consisting of PSPV and CompromÃs, has joined the Moviment per la Pau de la Marina Alta’s demonstration against the massacre, scheduled for next Sunday, the 15th.
The Marina Alta Peace Movement association had written to Dénia City Council to join the efforts to raise awareness of the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in the Gaza Strip, which has already been classified as genocide by many world powers and the United Nations, by displaying the Palestinian flag on the town hall’s façade. The local government, made up of the PSPV and CompromÃs parties, accepted the plan.
In a statement, the executive branch reminded us that in February 2024, the Dénia City Council expressed solidarity with the Palestinian cause by passing an institutional declaration in favour of the Palestinian people and a call for peace, which was approved by the entire municipal council.
More than a year after the motion was passed and more than a year and a half since the Israeli army invaded the Gaza Strip, “the massacre continues and, as the international community is denouncing, has reached a level of cruelty and violation of human rights that the world cannot afford to ignore.”
For this reason, the municipal government has decided that Dénia City Council will join in condemning the genocide of the Palestinian people by displaying the Palestinian flag on the facade of the town hall on Sunday, the 15th, coinciding with the Movement for Peace’s demonstration and rally.
The Dénia administration included some facts regarding the genocide in its statement:
15,000 girls and boys were slaughtered.
- Approximately 60,000 individuals have already died, including 601 in the last five days.
- The forcible displacement of two million people.
- The WHO estimated that 116,000 tonnes of food were halted at Gaza’s border.
- UN Humanitarian Coordinator Tom Fletcher warned that up to 14,000 newborns could die within the next 48 hours if they do not receive nourishment.
- The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity, effective October 8, 2024.
