A free six-month Benidorm bus pass for two euros? Beware; it does not exist and is a fraud. This is the warning given by Grupo Avanza, the concessionaire of the city’s urban bus service, in response to a social media message advertising this product. The company has already reported the event to the appropriate authorities.
This is revealed on its official website, which has released a statement warning Benidorm residents about the fraudulent message circulating on social media platforms such as Facebook. The message offers “free public transportation for Benidorm residents” in honour of the firm that operates this type of transportation’s alleged “fifth anniversary.” It promotes a six-month free travel card for two euros, claiming that there are only “500 unique cards at this special price.”
The message continues with a link that you must click to obtain additional information. And that’s the catch: it’s a “fraud,” according to the Avanza Group’s website. Furthermore, the technique for getting citizens to click on the link is to put remarks from alleged users who have actually acquired the card in the post’s comments, along with photos.
The transport provider clarifies: “We are completely unaware of the advertisement circulating on social media under the name ‘Public Transport in Benidorm,’ which offers a supposed transport card for two euros for free travel for six months, linking to an external website.”
According to the company, “this announcement is false and constitutes an unauthorised use of Avanza’s corporate identity, as well as the services we provide in the city of Benidorm.” They additionally highlight the fact that “it is an attempted scam that could jeopardise the security of users’ personal and financial data.”
Do not use the link or disclose information
As a result, the firm that oversees urban transit continues with its message: “We ask that you do not access the link or provide any information of any kind.” Meanwhile, “We have reported the incident to the relevant authorities and are working to ensure the fraudulent content is removed immediately.”
After this information spread, many responses were made to the same post, and several Benidorm-related groups on this social network are also warning about the suspected scam.
According to Avanza, “All official information about our services and promotions is available exclusively through our official channels.”
