A 30-year-old Irishman was stabbed in Playa Flamenca. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 14th, on Calle Jalón, which runs parallel to the Las Estacas promenade, near the intersection with Calle Salvador DalÃ, which connects Calle Nicolás de Bussi and the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre.
The victim, who had a lengthy criminal record, was treated by local police, who provided first aid until an ambulance arrived. Initially, he refused to identify the perpetrator, despite knowing who he was and being familiar with him.
The next morning, traces of blood were still visible adjacent to some abandoned electrical meters.
This occurrence follows one that occurred in the same location a few days before. A 21-year-old Irish man was shot and critically injured. The Guardia Civil then detained two of the victim’s Irish compatriots, ages 27 and 45. One of them, the alleged shooter, was held in detention without bail, while the second suspect was released on bond and barred from leaving the country as an alleged accessory after the fact. The suspects discarded the weapon, ammo, and the victim’s cell phone in a nearby unoccupied lot.
This event, combined with an attempted kidnapping a few days later, alarmed residents of the Orihuela Costa, who once again urged for enhanced police presence and monitoring in the area in light of escalating insecurity.
