According to a statement from the force, after an unintentional fire at the Poor Clares convent in Lorca (Murcia), the National Police saved an elderly nun in a wheelchair who was unable to leave her apartment.
On January 4th, at around 1:30 a.m., police officers were dispatched by the CIMACC 091 Room to the convent due to a fire that was occurring.
A patrol car discovered the fire’s source on the ground floor of the building, surrounded by thick smoke and blazing flames. They attempted to put it out using the police vehicle’s fire extinguisher. Two additional officers entered the first level at the same time, found the woman, and took her to safety.
The prompt police response made it possible to maintain control of the situation until fire personnel arrived, completed building ventilation, and confirmed that the fire had only caused material damage.
