The 42-year-old man arrested in Elda and Petrer (Alicante) on charges of eleven sexual attacks on women between 2017 and 2025 is accused of attacking one of the victims twice in different years. Their ages range from 18 to 52.
The apprehended individual will appear before the Elda Court of First Instance, the National Police said in a statement Friday morning, June 13th.
During a search of the man’s home in Petrer, he was eventually identified and arrested. Items reportedly linked him to these sexual assaults were discovered in his residence, and the police agency stated that the examination of the DNA samples acquired throughout the inquiry has been “conclusive” and “has confirmed his alleged involvement in the events.”
The National Police investigation began in 2017 when many accusations of sexual assault surfaced, indicating a similar modus operandi and perpetrator description. The attacks persisted intermittently in the years that followed.
The first of these appears to have occurred in a vacant lot in Petrer, with the last taking place in May 2025. In all incidents, the attacker allegedly approached the victims from behind, at night or in the early morning, and in places near their homes.
According to the National Police, a “long process” was required to clarify the events that were causing “great social alarm” in the municipalities of Elda and Petrer, due to “the intermittent nature of the attacks, the limited initial information available, and the lack of conclusive evidence during the initial years.”
The inquiry uncovered a “clear criminological pattern” and gathered the “necessary evidence” in one of the most recent incidents, “thanks to which it was possible to identify the alleged perpetrator.”
The inquiry pinpointed the alleged perpetrator’s acts to a specific location near his residence. To accomplish this, advanced fact reconstruction and personal identification techniques were employed, as well as the cooperation of the Behaviour Analysis Section of the Central Criminal Intelligence Unit of the National Police’s General Judicial Police Station, which provided “key data” on the alleged assailant’s behaviour.
