A Guardia Civil officer was killed and another critically injured after being struck by a car on the National-IV highway between Seville and Cádiz. The tragedy happened near the town of Jerez de la Frontera.
The deceased officer was identified as Carlos Francisco BG, while the injured Guardia Civil officer, David GI, has been sent to a hospital in Jerez de la Frontera.
According to the Guardia Civil, a patrol car from the Jerez Traffic Detachment was on duty at kilometre 633 of the N-IV highway travelling towards Cádiz after a vehicle “violently” collided with the police vehicle.
The event occurred at 11:40 a.m. on Friday, according to the first contacts to the Andalusian 112 Emergency Centre.
Following multiple warnings from drivers driving through the area, health services, the Guardia Civil, and an emergency helicopter were dispatched, resulting in the closure of the road in one direction or another.
Calls to 112
Health services later verified to 112 the death of one person, the Guardia Civil officer, as well as three other injured persons from the collision, including the other officer.
Last year, four Guardia Civil officers were killed while conducting a traffic check, and this accident is similar. In that case, it was the AP-4 highway, which connects Seville to Cádiz.
There are more variations, such as the deadly accident in March of last year, which was caused by a truck that ran over the police rather than a car, as happened on this occasion.
