A forest fire broke out around 12:52 p.m. on Tuesday in the municipality of Cocentaina, in the province of Alicante.
Three fire crews and a forestry foreman from the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium were dispatched immediately, along with two aerial vehicles, two fire engines, and three units from the Valencian Regional Government’s Forest Fire Brigade, one of whom was transported by helicopter. The aerial resources were withdrawn at 12:56 p.m., following an initial evaluation of the situation.
The Valencian Government’s Emergency Coordination Centre has declared Situation 1 of the Special Plan for Forest Fires (PEIF), indicating an emergency level in which one or more fires may severely damage forest assets and, in certain situations, have a minor impact on the population or non-forest assets. These types of fires can be controlled using the plan’s own resources, although extraordinary resources may be necessary at the request of the PEIF director and after an assessment by the state administration.
There are currently no reports of personal injuries or evacuations.
