Senior Cinema returns: Tuesdays, two-euro tickets for those over 65

The third iteration of the Cine Sénior programme allowing persons 65 and older to go to the cinema for a reduced price of 2 euros every Tuesday in the 397 participating theatres has begun.

There are around 2,900 projection screens dispersed across the country. Tickets can be purchased both at the box office and online, similar to those for the previous project launched by the Ministry of Culture.

As a new element in this third iteration, the programme will be available all year, until June 2026, as opposed to nine months in the previous edition. According to the Ministry of Culture, the programme’s continuation stems from the success of past iterations.

The maximum budget to finance these subsidies in 2025 is €8.5 million. A maximum of €7,250,000 of the €8.15 million budgeted particularly for help will be used to distribute grants to beneficiaries, while a maximum of €900,000 will be set aside to handle anticipated demands for further aid due to higher-than-expected expenditure.

According to data from the Spanish Federation of Cinemas (FECE), the previous edition of Cine Sénior attracted 1,689,115 senior spectators, which is 764,391 more than the 2023 edition, marking an 83% increase.
