The National Police have arrested a 42-year-old Polish citizen in Orihuela Costa, accusing him of transporting approximately twenty parcels of marijuana to his home country via a company in Alicante’s Pla de la Vallonga industrial park and other parcel service companies in the region.
The Drug Unit of the Alicante Provincial Judicial Police Brigade conducted the operation in coordination with the Alicante Central District Police Station’s Operational Response Group, seizing 19 kilogrammes of marijuana buds, hashish, and cash.
The inquiry began with the discovery of an Eastern European criminal organisation reportedly involved in exporting considerable amounts of marijuana from the province of Alicante to several Polish cities via numerous courier businesses.
At the end of April, National Police investigators seized two shipments from a Polish citizen to a parcel delivery company in Alicante’s Pla de la Vallonga industrial zone.
These deliveries contained 17 packets of marijuana buds totalling around 19 kilogrammes, and initial investigations revealed that this man had provided fraudulent information, resulting in 16 identical shipments to various Polish cities in just two months.
Register in Guardamar
Following this revelation, the police conducted a thorough investigation, resulting in the identity of the email sender and the location of his residence. In early May, a judicial authorisation was asked for to search the home in Guardamar del Segura, but the suspect was not present.
Various drug-related items were seized during the search, including 213 grammes of marijuana, 50 grammes of hashish, more than 700 euros in cash, several electronic devices, documentation in the suspect’s name, a notebook with notes relevant to the investigation, four cell phones, two bulletproof vests, a BB gun, and two mid- and high-end vehicles.
Police investigations to locate the culprit showed that he had rented a car, and he was eventually apprehended in Orihuela Costa while leaving a shopping mall.
The Orihuela duty court received the detainee and is currently investigating him for a crime against public health.
