Elche Local Police apprehended a man for allegedly threatening people and officers with a screwdriver on Sunday afternoon, July 13th. He is an old acquaintance of the police.
The City Council issued a statement on Monday, stating that a call to 092 alerted them to the presence of a person in Plaza de Madrid who allegedly threatened passersby with a screwdriver.
As they approached the square, the agents confirmed the existence of the individual, who was “armed” with the tool. Despite police instructions and threats, the detainee refused to give up the item and threatened them with phrases such as “I’m going to kill you if you come closer.”
According to the police, the individual approached a popular bar’s patio “defiantly” while its customers were inside.
Officers used a taser to immobilise a suspect who refused to accept their directions. This was done to prevent more violence and minimise potential harm.
These actions led to their swift immobilisation and arrest. The individual was transferred to police stations for investigations and suitable judicial proceedings.
