The Alicante City Council has approved the terms and conditions and issued a call for applications for the 2025 Residential Rental Grants, which seek to promote the independence of young people aged 18 to 35 (at the time of application). The administration, led by Luis Barcala, has allotted €120,000 for these grants, which may be increased depending on the number of applicants.
Each application and contract can receive a total of 3,000 euros per year, distributed in 12 monthly installments of 250 euros. Cristina Cutanda, the municipal spokesperson, clarified that “to grant these grants, the monthly rent cannot exceed 800 euros, and priority will be given to the unemployment status of all members of the family unit, as well as to whether the family is a large or single-parent family, and whether any member of the family unit has a disability or is disabled.”
250 euros each month
Each grant received under this call is limited to €250 per month, with a maximum of 12 monthly payments per year and an annual maximum of €3,000. A single grant will be provided per dwelling and for the maximum amount, regardless of how many tenants are mentioned on the same application. These grants provide financial support for the primary residence’s rental costs and are incompatible with other grants provided for the same reason.
Applications may be submitted through the municipal electronic office within 30 calendar days of the agreement and terms and conditions being published in the Official Provincial Gazette (BOP), following the procedure outlined in the “Youth” services catalogue.
The final decision states that applicants can credit rent payments until December 31, 2025. Payment of the help will proceed when the subsidy is provided for the full monthly rent payments beginning January 1, 2025, and will continue until January 31, 2026, when the remaining monthly payments are credited.
Young Rental Housing
Cristina Cutanda complimented the municipality’s efforts to encourage young empowerment through rental housing, both directly and through the construction of social housing.
In this regard, the municipal government spokeswoman stated that the Housing Trust has also approved housing for teachers in San Gabriel, with a €1.1 million investment to make 14 units available for rent to young people. This project is in addition to the other 15 apartments, all for young people, that are being built in El Portón in the Old Town for €1.4 million and will be completed in the second half of 2025.
