Within four hours, the Local Police had located and detained the alleged perpetrator of a hit-and-run on a public road that injured a 12-year-old girl. Yesterday afternoon, Thursday July 17th, in the Pla neighbourhood, the girl was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene following the collision.
A medical team from the SAMU (National Health and Safety Administration) treated the youngster on the scene and then brought her to the hospital, where she is still being monitored for a skull fracture. Medical sources report that while her health is serious, her life is not in danger.
Local Police patrols intervened, allowing the vehicle involved to be discovered a few minutes later near the accident location. The car received a strong hit to the front right windscreen, which was consistent with the collision damage.
The investigation was taken over by the Local Police’s Traffic Judicial Police Unit, which was able to reach the alleged perpetrator of the accident, who later admitted to the crime. The arrest occurred about four hours later.
The detainee, a 19-year-old man without a driving license, could face more than four years in prison for leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license, in addition to any criminal liability that may arise for the victim’s injuries.
