On Wednesday afternoon, July 16th, the National Police arrested a Camorra fugitive on Italy’s most wanted list in Orihuela Costa. The suspect is Simone Bartiromo, born in 1989 and considered the leader of the Sorianello clan—the Camorra of the Traiano neighbourhood—and linked to the Secondigliano alliance.
The fugitive is linked to drug trafficking and faces 24 years in prison for four drug trafficking offences.
The investigation began last year when officers learnt that the fugitive could seek refuge in Spain, where he allegedly continued to carry out his illicit drug trafficking activities.
After more than 13 months of investigation, involving various National Police units from Alicante, Madrid, and Malaga, along with the Legione Carabinieri “Campania,” the Provincial Command of Naples, and Italian authorities, it was established that the detainee had a network of contacts deployed in Malaga and Barcelona, who were responsible for maintaining the logistics of transporting and distributing the narcotic substance.
Finally, the exchange of information between the National FAST Network and FAST Italy made it possible to focus on the area where the suspect might be residing, specifically a residential complex located in the Orihuela Costa area.
The suspect was arrested this Wednesday afternoon as he was leaving the house and was about to get into a vehicle parked outside.
The detainee is involved in the shipment and distribution of cocaine, acting as a supplier to other criminal organisations based in Europe. For all these reasons, he had an EAW issued by the Italian authorities for four drug trafficking offences, for which he could be sentenced to 24 years in prison.
