The Subdelegate of the Government in Alicante, Juan Antonio Nieves, yesterday, Monday July 20th, welcomed the 149 trainee officers from the 40th class of National Police officers who are joining the police stations in the Alicante capital and six other cities in the province where the force operates. The officers will complete their training for a year in the province of Alicante.
Nieves, accompanied by the Chief of Police, Carlos Gajero, and the Chief Commissioner of the Province of Alicante, Manuel Lafuente, stated at the presentation of the new officers, held at the ADDA in Alicante, that these men and women are joining “an institution with two centuries of history, 200 years of public service to the citizens, and working for the safety of all.”
The 149 trainee officers will be stationed not only in Alicante, where 43 officers will be on duty, but will also reinforce the staff at the police stations in Orihuela (8), Elche (33), Elda-Petrer (10), Dénia (16), Benidorm (29), and Alcoy (10). “They will be present throughout our province, wherever the National Police has jurisdiction over citizen security,” he stated.
The trainee officers who will reinforce the staff at the province’s police stations during the summer will increase police presence on the streets and in various security plans such as “Safe Tourism” and “Operation Summer.”
Commitment
The sub-delegate praised the commitment and effort required to reach this point in a police career: “From the moment the vocation for public service arises until actually joining the force, the path is not easy. It is a highly competitive and demanding process. That is why those who are here today represent excellence.”
Nieves also noted that many of these officers come from different parts of Spain but “find a place of welcome in the province of Alicante,” in a community that particularly values police work.
The sub-delegate also emphasised the Spanish Government’s commitment to the State Security Forces: “The Government’s commitment to the State Security Forces is absolute, and this has just been demonstrated with the new public recruitment program for 2025, which provides for the incorporation of almost 3,000 new national police officers.”
Nieves said, “We work for security to generate public trust, both among those who live here and among those who choose the province of Alicante as a destination, one of the safest in the world.”
For his part, the Chief of Police emphasised to the officers that they will be doing their internships “in a privileged location” and encouraged them to take advantage of this year of training and learn as much as possible.
