An international arrest order issued by Morocco led to the arrest of a Moroccan citizen aboard a ship travelling between Malaga and Melilla. The arrest occurred in July during a normal police examination conducted inside the vessel by National Police officials.
The arrest was made possible by the Mobile Brigade – Transit Police, a specialised force that regularly inspects public transit, both on land and at sea. Investigators observed suspicious behaviour from a passenger during one of these operations, as he avoided eye contact and attempted to evade identity checks.
Given the individual’s evasive behaviour, the authorities used security protocols to identify him and determine that he was a Moroccan manwanted on an international warrant. On July 3rd, 2025, Moroccan legal officials issued an arrest warrant, which was entered in the Interpol database as a Red Notice.
Once the international warning was verified, officers arrested him in accordance with existing law and informed him of his rights and the basis for the police action. Interpol’s Red Notice enables law enforcement agencies in member countries to find and temporarily detain wanted individuals pending possible extradition or suitable legal processes.
The National Police emphasised that this arrest highlights the operational success of the Mobile Brigade, a unit with nearly a century of experience that now has a stronger presence in ports, stations, and terminals across the country. Its primary objective is to protect citizens through surveillance, document control, crime investigation, and emergency response.
Officers from this squad work in both uniform and plainclothes, collaborating with other police units, travel aid agencies, dog handlers, and quick reaction teams. In this case, their efforts were critical to locating and apprehending a globally wanted fugitive.
