In 2022, the Guardia Civil’s primary hypothesis regarding the murder of a hotel worker in Guardamar del Segura was corroborated by over 100 pieces of evidence collected at the crime site. The case led to the arrest of her son and another individual.
The two alleged perpetrators were arrested on July 7th, according to a statement released by the Guardia Civil. The crime against the 77-year-old woman occurred on December 21st, 2022. The arrest was made subsequent to the receipt of a significant portion of the Guardia Civil’s analysis of the evidence collected at the crime site, which supports the primary hypothesis that officers had been considering from the outset.
The Guardia Civil in Guardamar del Segura was notified of a potential homicide in a residence in the town at 6:20 a.m. on December 21st, 2022, by a call received on the emergency line ‘112’.
Upon their arrival at the crime site, the officers discovered the victim’s son, who had informed the victim, a 77-year-old woman who was lying on the floor, bound with cable ties. He asserted that the homeowner was murdered while he was in another room as a result of multiple individuals entering the residence with the intention of robbing her.
At that time, the murder squad was activated and would oversee the investigation in light of the observed signs of violence. The Crime Lab conducted a meticulous visual inspection of the crime scene, which lasted several days due to the apartment’s multi-story structure and numerous rooms.
The Barcelona Department of the National Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences received over 100 fragments of evidence and biological remains for further analysis.

The Guardia Civil confirmed their primary hypothesis, which was that the deceased’s 51-year-old son committed the crime, in July of last year, after analysing a significant portion of the evidence.
Additionally, the results of these tests suggested that a 35-year-old male was present together with him. Over the course of two and a half years of meticulous investigation, all parties involved collected, compared, studied, and analysed the evidence.
Investigators have determined that the alleged perpetrator staged a home invasion to conceal the fact that he was the one who murdered his mother during a potential argument between the two, which allegedly commenced after midnight when the victim returned home from work.
The autopsy and other evidence show that the woman died violently, as seen in the clear signs of violence on the victim and the scene.
The victim’s son, who is accused of being the actual perpetrator of the murder, and a 35-year-old friend of the victim, who is accused of being a co-perpetrator , were both apprehended in Guardamar del Segura on July 7th. The evidence found in various rooms of the house implicated both men in the events that took place.
The murdered woman’s son, with the assistance of his counsel, confessed the facts in his statement to the Guardia Civil on the day of his arrest. He also stated that the other man in his company had suggested the idea of staging a robbery to conceal the truth.
The son was incarcerated and the other man was released on probation by Torrevieja Court of Instruction No. 4, pending the results of the remaining samples that were awaiting analysis.
The Homicide Team of the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police, the Criminalistics Laboratory of the Command, and the Judicial Police Team of the Civil Guard of Guardamar collaborated to conduct Operation Jónico22, with the assistance of the Civil Guard Post of Guardamar.
