The Guardia Civil has investigated a 42-year-old man for allegedly committing theft with force after stealing approximately 350 litres of diesel from the tank of a truck parked in an industrial estate in the municipality of Pego, the Guardia Civil reported in a statement.
The incident occurred during the early hours of the morning. The truck was parked on a public road and was ready to be loaded. The truck was subjected to fuel theft.
The perpetrator accessed the tank by breaking the cap and, using a tube, transferred the diesel to several canisters, which he loaded onto a passenger vehicle. The damage caused to the company that owned the truck has been valued at over 500 euros, including the value of the stolen diesel and the damage to the tank, which rendered its closure unusable.
Following the complaint filed by the affected company, Guardia Civil officers in Pego began an investigation to identify the perpetrator.
Through various efforts and analysis of the evidence obtained, as well as thanks to the collaboration of the Pego City Council, which provided key evidence, the vehicle used and its driver were identified.
The Guardia Civil has located the suspect, a 42-year-old Spanish man with a history of similar incidents in other towns in the province. The investigation has been forwarded to the Dénia Investigative Court.
