The current state of Villajoyosa’s security services is untenable. Not only are the Local Police experiencing issues, which have resulted in the Mayor, Marcos Zaragoza (PP), and the former chief of HR being investigated for alleged malfeasance. The unrest has now extended to Civil Protection in the wake of the events that transpired at the Desembarco, one of the town’s most significant festival landmarks, in the early hours of July 28th.
Representatives of Civil Protection submitted a harshly worded letter to City Hall earlier this week via the General Electronic Registry (REG) of the General State Administration (AGE). The letter accused the Local Police Inspector (MAP) of “despotic treatment” towards his officers.
It is specifically stated that “the aforementioned commander has attempted to destroy us as volunteers and as individuals by consistently prohibiting us from performing services and removing the radio, as well as by treating us in a despotic, authoritarian manner.”
“Due to this, the volunteers have refused to perform any form of service, resulting in unrest.” The commander has even gone so far as to notify our volunteers in a threatening tone (…) that we could not perform certain services and could be sanctioned. The text continues.
Consequently, they request that Mayor Marcos Zaragoza “accept responsibility for resolving this conflict, as this lack of respect and consideration towards Civil Protection volunteers could be considered a disciplinary offence under Organic Law 2/1986 (…) in addition to the obligation as police officers to comply with the principles of ethics and good conduct.”
