This layered taco dip is a festive and savoury appetiser that’s ideal for parties. The “graveyard” is made by layering seasoned cream cheese on top of minced meat, lettuce, cheese, and crushed tortilla chips to represent dirt. To complete the spooky scene, serve graveyard-shaped tortillas and a “ghost” of sour cream!

Ingredients

. 1 package cream cheese, softened

. 1/2 cup sour cream

. 1 tsp taco seasoning

. 1 lb ground beef

. 1 packet taco seasoning mix

. 1 can refined beans

. 1 cup grated cheddar cheese

. 1/2 cup shredded lettuce

. 1/2 cup diced tomatoes

. 1/4 black olives, diced

. 1 cup crushed tortilla chips

. Flour tortillas or hard-shell tortillas, for gravestones

Instructions

Prepare the base: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup sour cream, and 1 teaspoon taco seasoning until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Cook the Meat: Brown the ground beef in a skillet. Drain the grease and stir in the taco seasoning mix and water, following the package directions. Simmer the sauce until it thickens.

Layer the Dip: Spread the refined beans over the cream cheese mixture. Top with the seasoned ground beef, then add the shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced olives

Gravestones: Cut gravestone shapes from flour tortillas or hard-shell tortillas. Bake at 175 degrees Celsius for a few minutes, or until slightly crisp.

Assemble the Graveyard: To create the 'dirt,' sprinkle the grated cheese and crushed tortilla chips over the tip of the dip. Place the tortilla gravestones in the dip.

Pipe a ghostly shape onto the dip with the remaining sour cream.

Serve: Serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
