A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in Elche as the alleged perpetrator of the violent assault on a National Police officer that took place in the Carrús neighbourhood on August 2nd. The detention occurred at midnight on Friday.
The investigation alleges that the young man hurled a stone that struck the police officer in the face, resulting in injuries that necessitated his hospitalisation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the General Hospital of Elche for four days.
While attempting to prevent a potential offence, the officer, who was off duty, encountered two individuals on Calle Clara Campoamor.
The attack occurred at that time. The adolescent in custody has been identified as the perpetrator of the attack, and the police have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests.
“He intervened to attempt to prevent a potential crime, fulfilling his duty as a National Police officer, after observing a situation that could constitute a criminal offence,” according to the Jupol union. He was viciously assaulted by two individuals at that precise instant, who proceeded to beat him until he was rendered unconscious on the ground.
“These include the loss of nearly all of his teeth, a fractured nose, a skull fracture, a broken eyelid, 12 staples in his head, and waterlogged lungs,” the union continued.
A 47-year-old officer, a member of the National Police’s Operational Response Group (GOR), was brutally assaulted in Elche last Sunday while attempting to prevent the theft of a motorcycle on Calle Clara Campoamor in the Carrús neighbourhood.
Two individuals were observed by the police officer, who was off duty, unarmed, and out of uniform, as they tampered with a motorbike. He intervened without hesitation to avert the crime.
Nevertheless, the suspects violently assaulted him, causing him to collapse and become incapacitated in a pool of blood.
An image verified by close sources shows the officer with his face completely disfigured and covered in bruises while receiving medical attention in the street.
Several emergency interventions were necessary to save his life due to his severe injuries.
The officer was discharged from the ICU of Elche General Hospital on Wednesday, August 6th, after a three-day period of severe condition. He has been relocated to a facility, where he is gradually recuperating from his injuries.
