The brutal assault on a woman on the landing of her home in Torrevieja on the afternoon of Sunday, June 29, has been clarified by the Guardia Civil.
A 19-year-old man was arrested by officers at the Torrevieja station as part of Operation Cheria-25. The man is accused of committing a larceny and a robbery with violence, both of which were committed in Torrevieja.
The Torrevieja Court of Instruction ordered the arrested individual to be held in pretrial detention without bail.
Officers received a report of a violent burglary at the entrance of a residence on Calle Patricio Zammit in Torrevieja at the end of June. The residence is situated across from the bus terminal and is situated a mere few metres from the Palace of Justice and the Guardia Civil barracks. Therefore, the investigation commenced.
The young man, who was of Moroccan descent, approached the woman. When he was unable to accomplish his goal, he struck her with a dagger after she resisted. Subsequently, she sustained severe injuries necessitating her admission to Torrevieja University Hospital.
Officers verified that the victim had been pursued from a supermarket to her residence as they continued their investigation.
Furthermore, an examination of a multitude of security camera recordings produced images of the alleged perpetrator, who was subsequently identified.
Simultaneously, officers received a new report of the theft of a gold chain through a seizing method, which was also attributed to the same individual.
The Guardia Civil conducted a special surveillance operation in Torrevieja, under the suspicion that he may be on the Juan Aparicio promenade, which ultimately resulted in his apprehension.
Following this, the Generalitat’s Emergency Coordination Centre reported that the patient was a 58-year-old woman who sustained a severe stab wound to the abdomen, as well as bruises. She was transported by a SAMU ambulance.
The victim is referred to as “an elderly person” in the Guardia Civil press release.
The Guardia Civil’s images depict the woman entering the building, while the assailant, who was wearing a swimsuit, flip-flops and no shirt, exploited the opportunity to enter the lobby after the door was opened.
He is seen fleeing away shortly thereafter, and the victim follows him, striking him with a purse. The woman then rests on the steps and contacts emergency services.
This action is a component of the Major Security Plan, which is designed to enhance the safety of older individuals and prevent risks by enhancing police response and fostering their confidence, according to the Guardia Civil.
