A 17-year-old cyclist passed away while competing in the Junior Cycling Tour of Ribera del Duero. His demise was the result of a catastrophic collision that claimed the lives of numerous riders.
The young man passed away after being involved in a significant accident during the second stage of the competition. The competition has been temporarily suspended.
Although the organisation has not verified the identity of the juvenile cyclist, sources say that he is Iván Meléndez Luque, a 17-year-old cyclist from Malaga who competed for Tenerife Cabberty. It was discovered that the deceased cyclist was not originally scheduled to participate in the Vuelta a la Ribera and was a last-minute substitution.
The deceased’s fall was the consequence of a tyre burst, which caused the Tenerife Cabberty cyclist to collide with the ground before the other affected riders, who numbered over ten, collapsed on top of him.
This second stage of the Junior Cycling Tour of Ribera del Duero was located between Laguna Negra de Vinuesa and Langa de Duero. The collision transpired at the intersection of the N-234 highway, which leads to El Amogable, a vast forested region situated in Pinar Grande, Soria province.
