A 44-year-old man is still in jail without bail because he is accused of killing his 37-year-old neighbour in the El Moralet area by running over him. The deadly attack is thought to have been caused by a long-running argument over the property lines.
The worst possible result of what seemed like a normal neighbourhood fight happened: one person died and another will never be the same. What started as a fight over land in the countryside of Alicante turned violent, with someone allegedly killing someone by running over their car. The accused attacker, a 44-year-old man, is now in pretrial detention, under communication, and cannot post bail after giving his statement to the duty court on Monday.
The event, which shocked the normally calm community of El Moralet, is a sad reminder of how far anger and the inability to settle disagreements calmly can go. According to sources in the Civil Guard who were involved in the probe, both neighbours had a history of complaining to each other about the lines between their properties. This disagreement had turned into open warfare and ended in the most violent way possible.
The Order of Events of a Tragic Prediction
The things that sent one man to jail and another to his death are not a one-off incident; they are just the tip of a long-running fight.
The Deadly Ending of Friday in El Moralet
Everything took place on Friday, August 22nd, in the afternoon. The victim, who was 37 years old and named JMS, was leaving his home in the country area of El Moralet. According to the version being looked into by police from the Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), his 44-year-old neighbour JAGS hit him on purpose with his car at that time. The force of the hit was so great that the man died right away from his injuries.
Even though other neighbours saw what happened and called the police, they couldn’t save JMS’s life. Police caught the person who they thought was the aggressor at the scene of the accident. They quickly found a link between the accident and past fights between the two.
A quick hearing and jail time without bail
The suspect went before the Magistrate of the Alicante Duty Court only 72 hours after the crime. Because of how bad the crimes were and how likely it was that the person would run away, the Prosecutor’s Office asked for unconditional jail. The judge took the defendant’s statement and then ordered his provisional, communicated, and non-bailable arrest. The defendant was charged with murder. This is one of the strictest safety measures because of how dangerous the judge thinks the suspect is and how strong the initial proof was.
