The National Police in Denia arrested a Polish man who was on the run from Polish officials on charges of murder, drug trafficking, and membership in a criminal group. Europol called him a “high-value target.”
The arrest of this person was connected to the arrest of another fugitive of the same nationality in Benahavís (Málaga), for whom another arrest warrant was still out there. Both were said to have been in charge of a violent gang from Krakow that was transporting drugs from Spain to Poland, according to a statement released by the police.
Authorities in Poland started their investigation in May of last year after getting information that a drug-trafficking gang might be in Spain.
In response, the government of the country said that the group was part of a gang that controlled drug trade in the city of Krakow.
In 2016, police in Poland started looking into the gang. In 2022, they broke up two crime networks that moved drugs, mostly marijuana, between Spain, Poland, and other European countries.
Both groups had hierarchical structures that made it possible for large amounts of drugs to be bought within the community, transported across foreign borders, and distributed in Poland and other places.
There were records of purchases and sales of more than 140 kilogrammes of marijuana and a lot of cocaine, with black market prices exceeding several million zlotys.
Agents from Poland also found that people in these networks were involved in a number of illegal activities, such as attacking Border Guard officers and other people with vehicles and sharp items. The captured fugitive was the main boss and caused a lot of damage to the police.
The Spanish agents’ investigations led to the identification and location of the first of the fugitives in Benahavís. This allowed an arrest operation to begin with the help of a team from the Krakow Police. The suspect, who had been avoiding Polish police for more than two years, was caught during this operation.
After the arrest, the other leader of the group was found and held in Denia. He was also the subject of a European Arrest Warrant from the government of Poland.
