Elche Council has issued a tender for the service of comprehensively organising the Mediaeval Market, which takes place every autumn as part of the Elche Mediaeval Festival. The contract will span four years, from 2025 to 2028, and requires interested enterprises to pay a minimum annual fee of €20,000 to the council.
The chosen bidder will be in charge of the event’s design, programming, stage design, set-up and teardown, as well as financial management, and will not be compensated by the municipality. Income will be derived solely from the management of market stalls and activities, which constitute a concession.
The requirements state that the market will feature between 100 and 150 stalls per year, with a balanced distribution: at least 40% for crafts, 25% for food and traditional products, and a maximum of 30% for pubs and restaurants. In addition, the chosen bidder must supply four free stalls to social organisations selected by the Department of Culture.
The event will take place in two locations: Paseo de la Estación and its surrounds, with the Candalix Parking lot serving as a catering space, or in other squares and streets in the historic centre, such as Plaza del Palau, Plaza Santamaría, Glorieta, or Calle Obispo Tormo.
The contract also requires the organisation to provide cultural and recreational activities such as parades, musical concerts, mediaeval craft workshops, and children’s games, as well as outreach and advertising efforts coordinated with the City Council.
