Santa Pola Mayor Loreto Serrano and Councillor for Citizen Security Ana Blasco presented the Local Police’s equipment to ensure citizen safety during the upcoming patron saint events. They also unveiled a new vehicle made available to the canine service, which has been modified to ensure the safety and comfort of Indio and Nero, two police canines.
It’s a renovated and rebuilt van with screen-printed emblems for the Santa Pola Local Police and the canine unit. Two dog cages has been fitted at the rear.
According to Loreto Serrano, “for six years, our goal has been to ensure that the Local Police have the appropriate means to carry out their duties, and today we are presenting new equipment for our police dogs, who are doing an unsurpassed job alongside their responsible officers: a vehicle adapted to ensure the dogs are comfortable and safe on the move.”
Roberto MartÃnez, one of the two guides, revealed that the service focusses on drug prevention and retail trafficking with two three-and-a-half-year-old Belgian Malinois dogs. They were saved from maltreatment, and we trained them in limpet marking, which is absolutely safe for the public because the animal just marks the location of the material with its nose and sits down to wait for its reward.

Ana Blasco stated that “during these patron saint festivities, we will have two members of the canine service, two officers piloting drones, two officers specialising in preventing drug use and possession, and the beach patrol, which will be monitoring the Moro assault in Levante and our entire coastline during these festivities, all led by an officer and supervised by the command.” From here, I urge everyone to take responsibility. We can have fun with control while ensuring the safety and well-being of all our residents and guests.”
Pay special attention to the drinking gatherings
José Miguel Zaragoza, Chief Commissioner of the Local Police, underlined that “we have a very clear objective: to ensure citizens’ safety so that they can enjoy and participate in patron saint activities. To that end, we have formed a team that will include two dog handlers, pilots who will fly drones over the areas of interest, and officers who specialise in investigating acts of crime and gender-based violence, as well as the “Pluto Violeta” (Pluto Violeta), with whom we will have direct contact.”
Zaragoza further stated that “we will have eight specialised officers who have received specific training to address issues of citizen safety.” Everyone is concerned about safety, therefore we ask parents to remind their minor children to behave appropriately around alcohol. We’ll try to avoid street celebrations.”
