Cambiemos Orihuela will file a motion to the next municipal plenary session demanding that the streets be cleaned in accordance with the local rubbish plan, which this party believes the municipality is consistently failing to comply with.
The municipal party is requesting that the local government promptly create a street cleaning plan, as well as clean and maintain trash cans across the city, seashore, and neighbouring areas.
According to the same sources, a lack of street cleaning and sweeping has long been “one of the main complaints and demands” of Orihuela residents.
Big tax
The left-wing party claims that none of the previous 20 years’ ruling teams have been able to tackle this problem, and the effects “are evident to everyone who lives in our municipality or visits it.” It also has an equal impact on city neighbourhoods, coastal areas, and adjacent districts.
The Local Waste Plan (PLGRDA), authorised less than a year ago, acknowledges this shortcoming: a lack of manpower, equipment, and consistent planning.
According to the same reliable sources, “it is essential that the government team implement all the mechanisms outlined in the plan and that are necessary to tackle this problem once and for all.” Above all, they state, “given the unfair increase in the garbage collection fee.”
Mechanisms and Actions
With this motion, they demand that the municipal government incorporate the mechanisms and actions provided for in the Local Plan for the Management of Household and Similar Waste (PLGRDA) regarding dumpster cleaning and street cleaning; that it promote a municipal street cleaning plan that ensures the progressive and regular cleaning of all streets, including those that are not main thoroughfares; and that it acquire the necessary equipment and personnel to carry out
“Clean streets”
“Orihuela cannot wait much longer. Our city requires clean streets, bins, and a reliable street cleaning service. This is a historic debt owed to our residents. And even more so following the garbage fee increase: every euro collected must be utilised to enhance service, not to pay the salary of a municipal company manager, who is also directly accountable for our municipality’s neglected state,” stated Quique Montero, Cambiemos Orihuela councillor.
Orihuela’s rubbish collection service is one of the few municipally administered services in significant cities within the Valencian Community. It is currently controlled by a municipal corporation, which has started investing in new equipment, resources, and personnel.
